Lexi” The Rescue Cat Has An MRI Scan At A Small Animal Specialist Hospital In Homebush

Are you aware that the Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) based in Homebush, Sydney, is the biggest privately owned small animal specialist hospital in the Southern Hemisphere? The ARH worked together with the Animal Welfare League in the Save-A-Life Programme in September 2013. One of the selected patients provided with care by the emergency veterinary centre was a female tabby cat named Lexi. “Lexi was showing a poor sense of balance and it was for this reason that our specialist vet team carried out an MRI brain scan to find out what the cause was. From the outset, we believed that the presence of a brain tumour was highly possible. Interestingly, the MRI showed a focus of infection that meant the condition was curable. Hence, Lexi had a fair chance of recovering and finding a decent home”, says the General Manager, Troy James. Many abandoned domestic pets are rehomed annually by the Animal Welfare League of Australia. In 2013, the ARH was determined to dedicate their time and specialist knowledge to rendering assistance for abandoned pets like Lexi that need to be rehomed. “Our vets are devoted to supporting animal health. As a small animal specialist hospital, we had a fantastic opportunity to serve a great institution, the Animal Welfare League. We all wanted to give something that was going to help lend a hand to some of the animals that need to be rehomed. We expect that a significant number of pets from this rescue organisation may need proficient veterinary intervention”, states Mr James. The Animal Referral Hospital also assists not-for-profit animal and local wildlife associations like Wires and the Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Service. The hospital is open round the clock, throughout the entire week. Wandering pets and wildlife that are injured can be brought to this facility for free first aid administration. The patients are quickly attended to by skilled emergency veterinary and nursing personnel. “We are at the start of the bushfire season and a large number of owned, stray or wild animals will be displaced from their habitat and may also become hurt. Our hospital in Homebush and branch emergency practice in Sydney’s Baulkham Hills aspires to offers emergency veterinary care to all of the unwell animals that are brought to us”, Mr James tells the local community.
